What CEs you must have to recertify

To recertify, NBCRNA requires you to obtain 100 CE credits every 4 years. You may obtain all of them in a single year, or take a few every now and then.
  • 60 MAC Ed credits 
  • MAC Dev credits

MAC Ed (60 Class A credits) is the same requirement as before, and MAC Dev credits are the same as the old Class B credits, both just with an updated name.

Any surplus MAC Ed (Class A) credits earned beyond the required 60 contribute towards your MAC Dev (Class B) credit total.
recertCRNA no longer offers continuing education for CRNAs.

MAC Ed Credits

MAC Ed facilitates continuing education (CE) through activities that have prior approval from accredited organizations (AANA, ANCC, or ACCME), as part of regularly updating CRNAs' knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality of care. You may also acquire Class A credits by going to CRNA conferences or other activities approved by AANA. 
MAC Ed courses are meant to improve your clinical anesthesia skill set and grow your knowledge - all so you can deliver high-quality care for your patients.

MAC Dev Credits

MAC Dev supports CRNAs' development through professional activities, allowing them to earn their required Class B Credits while gaining valuable skills and experiences that enhance their ability to provide safe and effective anesthesia care to patients.  Class B credits may be earned while you are working. These credits cover a wide range of professional activities, and you do not need preapproval for Class B credits. Additionally, these credits do not need an assessment, so no testing is involved.

How Many MAC Ed Credits?

You are required to obtain 60 MAC Ed credits every 4 years to be eligible to recertify. 

As with all credits, MAC Ed credits may be obtained in a single year or accumulated over the 4-year recertification period. 

How Many MAC Dev Credits?

You must obtain 40 MAC Dev credits every 4 years in addition to the MAC Ed credits. 
MAC Dev requires professional development activities to achieve one or more of the following objectives to count toward Class B credits:
  • Enhanced knowledge of anesthesia practice
  • Supports patient safety
  • Fostering an understanding of the broader healthcare environment

Examples Of MAC Dev Credits

MAC Dev credits may include:
  • Teaching
  • Publishing
  • Research
